The IDEAS Global Assembly will take place in Thailand, 26-30 October 2015.
IDEAS Global Assembly 2015
The theme of the Global Assembly will be “Evaluating Sustainable Development”. This theme recognizes the move towards integrating sustainability in development, as illustrated in the sustainable development goals which the UN is expected to adopt as successors to the millennium development goals. The evaluation community as well as policy makers, politicians and stakeholders in the development world need to be ready for these goals and think through what changes they would bring to development policies and programs, to action for equity and gender, to public service and market based interventions, and to democratic governance, action on the ground and accountability. To make our societies and economies more sustainable means that we need to integrate environmental concerns and ecosystem services in our thinking, as we cannot survive in a world that has depleted resources and degraded ecosystems. We will also need to balance the need of current generations with the needs of future generations. Evaluators will be asked to integrate these issues into evaluations of policies, programs and interventions. The Global Assembly will present an opportunity to discuss these challenges and developments. The parallel conference on National Evaluation Capacities organized by UNDP’s Independent Evaluation Office will ensure some cross-fertilization with policy makers and government representatives. There will be an opportunity to provide an input into IDEAS’ contribution to the Global Evaluation Agenda 2016-2020 which will be one of the important products of the International Year of Evaluation 2015.
The members of IDEAS should play an important role in preparing for the Global Assembly. We envisage a process in which the International Thematic Interest Groups of IDEAS are involved in supporting streams of work at the conference.
